The LemONS project

Lemàriu Ortogràficu a Norma de su Sardu
Lemàriu Ortogràficu a Norma de su Sardu

The LemONS or Sardinian Normed Orthographic Lemmary is at the same time a project and a mission of the cultural association Acadèmia de su Sardu APS financed by the Sardinia Foundation. The idea of creating a lemmary of the entire Sardinian language arose three years ago and this year we have concluded the second year. The Sardinian Normed Orthographic Lemmary is therefore a lemmary of the Sardinian language, i.e. a great research which aims to collect all the lemmas of the Sardinian language, starting from the village forms, the sub-varieties and gradually arrives at the choice of the standardized forms. Therefore for each lemma that you find in the list of lemmas on the website sardu.wiki you will find the standardized forms and even the forms that do not become part of the norm taken into consideration. The methodology used in this work is the one indicated for the lexicon clearly and completely in the normative grammar Su Sardu Standard on pages 210-211 and 318-319. In this work, you will find the lemmas of all Sardinian, that is, the forms of both macrovarieties of Sardinian (Sardinian Campidanese and Sardinian Logudorese-Nuoro) and even the forms that concern the local varieties (of the village and the sub-varieties).

It is a work that will continue in the following years as every year other new entries will be added that were unknown to the search or that we did not have time to insert into this site in these first two years. Lexicography is a discipline of considerable importance as regards linguistics in general and with this work we wanted to begin to recover the historical words of Sardinian, the traditional words, the lexicon used daily by people up to the words we read in literary works in Sardinian language.

Furthermore, we had the great pleasure of presenting the project to the international scientific community: in June 2023 at the XIX International Conference of Minority Languages (ICML) in Carmarthen in Wales (UK) in front of the greatest linguistic and socio-linguistic experts in the whole world. world and subsequently in September of the same year at the XXXVIII Romanistentag in Leipzig (Germany) in front of the most important experts in Romance languages. The cultural association Acadèmia de su sardu APS with this project and this work of considerable importance aims for the future to lay the foundations for the Great Dictionary of the Sardinian language as already expressed in its Statute (in accordance with article 2.1, letters d and e).
